SINGAPORE: Fourteen apartments which are designed to help people with a mental health diagnosis or learning disability live independently have opened in Shrewsbury.

Sentinel Place, in Albert Road, was built by housing association Bromford as part of its scheme called MyPlace, which delivers supported housing across the Midlands.

The apartments each have one bedroom and are self-contained, with residents given access to a communal hub and an on-site care provider.

A housing enabler is also based there, helping the new residents to build confidence and learn new skills.

MyPlace has delivered 14 schemes across Birmingham, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Worcestershire and Telford – but its manager, Jacqueline Lea, said Sentinel Place is “among the best we’ve ever delivered”.

“The open days we’ve been running have generated a fantastic response, and we’ve been busy assessing customers for the scheme,” she said.

“Once people move in and settle, they absolutely thrive – it’s a wonderful environment.”
