Community housing group wins consent for social/ disability community

SINGAPORE: A community housing group has won consent to develop a social/ disability community in a regional setting.

Community and affordable housing provider CHL has lodged plans with the Queensland Government to build a 92-unit social housing project across two four-storey buildings on James St in Harristown, Toowoomba.

The youth foyer will be located just up the road from where 92 new social units will be built by Australia’s largest community housing provider.

CHL received its ministerial infrastructure designation (MID) from the Queensland government on May 21 to build the new project on James St in Harristown.

The new dwellings will be built across two five-storey buildings, providing more than 90 car parks and 50 bicycle spots in the process.

It is understood the project will be targeted at eligible seniors aged over 55

“By introducing one- and two-bedroom modular homes, the proposal addresses a gap in local housing options, catering specifically to the needs of the target cohort residents aged over 55 and predominantly single households,” the developer’s MID application said last year.

The project will be CHL’s first in Toowoomba as lead developer, having established community housing in Warwick and Chinchilla.
