Paralympian lists rare accessible luxury home in inner suburbs for sale

SINGAPORE: Renowned Paralympic swimmer, disability advocate, and keynote speaker Karni Liddell has listed her customised Brisbane apartment that proves wheelchair-accessible design and gold-standard luxury living are not mutually exclusive.

Liddell’s three-bedroom, two-bathroom residence blends ultra-luxury inner-city living with world-class Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) High Physical Support accreditation – a rare combination in Brisbane’s premium property market.

Ms Liddell said she was drawn to the property on Main St after a challenging period following the 2022 Brisbane floods.

Needing to relocate her family quickly, she found support in an unexpected place — her brother Brent, and premium developer Tim Forrester of Aria Property Group.

“What drew me to this property was the incredible support from Brent and Tim after the floods,” Ms Liddell said.

“Originally, the unit was a standard luxury layout, but we worked together to completely modify it to meet full wheelchair accessibility.

“There are widened doors, zero lips or steps anywhere, and it is fully SDA High Physical Support accredited.

“It’s been a safe, beautiful sanctuary for myself, my son, and our pets.”

While the apartment’s structural modifications offer effortless freedom, the building’s -amenities have provided an incredible lifestyle for Ms Liddell and her family.

The building is renowned for its community culture and resort-style features, which Ms Liddell said would be the hardest things to leave behind.

“My absolute favourite space is the rooftop with its panoramic river and city views,” she said.

“I am going to miss watching the river every single day,” Ms Liddell said.

Beyond the vistas, the rooftop features a magnesium spa and pool, ideal for recovery and relaxation.

The complex also features a private resident cinema — a favourite hangout for Ms Liddell’s son and his friends – and a private dining room available for milestone events.

The manicured resident gardens hold a deeply sentimental value, with Ms Liddell revealing they remind her of her dad’s gardens, making it feel like a true home from day one.

Ms Liddell believes the home was perfectly suited for a family looking for a vibrant, highly connected inner-city community, or anyone specifically seeking top-tier, uncompromised accessibility without sacrificing luxury.

“Our favourite memories here are filled with birthdays and fun nights with friends,” she said.

“The community events in the building are fantastic.

“I’m only selling to move closer to my family on the Sunshine Coast for that extra layer of support.

“It’s bittersweet, but it means someone else gets to thrive in this beautiful space.”

The property is being marketed by Ray White Bulimba sales agent Robyn Hoare with an expressions of interest campaign closing June 24.

Ms Hoare said the listing was an incredibly “rare gem” in Brisbane’s current high-end real estate landscape.

“We routinely see luxury properties, and we occasionally see properties with high-tier accessibility frameworks, but it is exceptionally rare to find both executed so flawlessly in a single inner-city home,” Ms Hoare said.

“Aria Property Group is famous for its world-class construction, and the tailored modifications made here have created a completely uncompromised, gold-standard accessible home that loses absolutely none of its high-end, premium aesthetic.

“It is a true benchmark for what modern inclusive luxury should look like.”
